This paper is the final project from my class in Information Architecture. It examines the design and implementation of a hypothetical website. Includes user scenarios and usibility testing.
This Design Report provides an overview of the Information Architecture design for the proposed site, Western Swing Xroads. The report begins with a Comparative Analysis of a similar site, Mandolin Cafe. Following this, Western Swing Xroads is described in detail. The site consists of 8 separate databases which are useful individually, but are more useful when presented in a single site, allowing users to search multiple databases simultaneously. The site navigation is clearly divided into two menu bars: The main menu accommodates primary users (those whose interest is in consumption and marketing) while the utility menu, located at the upper right of the page, is geared for secondary users (those whose interest is in learning and creating). The most prominent feature is the Book-A-Band advanced search, located in the main menu. This search allows consumers and promoters a means of quickly locating an available band according to date, location, price range, etc. The other tabs on the main menu represent the Venues, Bands, Songs, and News databases. The utility menu includes Forums, Resources, Instructors, and Classifieds. The user case scenario and task flow illustrate how a primary user (a band leader/promoter) uses the Bands and Songs databases to make to identify an appropriate band to hire as an opening act.
